Product and Process Features

Bioavailability and Potency 

Figures 1 and 2 show the HPLC and GLC of tocotrienol-rich fraction.  Both HPLC and GLC are used for process control at Palm Nutraceuticals sdn. Bhd.   In order to achieve the highest bioavailability and potency, we design our tocotrienol-rich fraction to have:

  • lowest -tocopherol content  - -tocopherol depresses the bioavailability of -tocotrienol and potency of tocotrienols in chemo-prevention (see the roles of tocotriemols in chemo-prevention of degenerative diseases)
  • highest -tocotrienol content - -tocotrienol has the highest potency in chemo-prevention of degenerative diseases (except for neuro-protection).
  • low squalene content C squalene may compete with tocotrienols for binding with -tocopherol transfer protein and hence likely to reduce their bioavailability
  • free from tocotrienol with degraded side chain C tocotrienols with oxidized side chain is unlikely to have chemo-preventive functionality
  • enhanced bioavailability with naturally present components C Monoacylglycerols and diacylglycerols are natural food emulsifier present in palm oil.  Through non-destructive processes, we preserve and retain these natural food emulsifiers in the tocotrienol-rich fraction.  These natural food emulsifiers shall enhance the absorption and bioavailability of tocotrienols in humans.

Food Safety, Food Supply, Environmental Friendliness and Sustainability 

We consider food safety, food supply and environmental friendliness for ultimate sustainability: 

Table 2 summarizes our efforts in conserving food source by using non-destructive processing technology and avoiding transesterification to eliminate possible contamination with undesirable residual fatty acid methyl esters.
