Background
Palm
Nutraceuticals Sdn. Bhd. was incorporated in Malaysia on 5th
May 2005. Palm Nutraceuticals Sdn. Bhd. is a subsidiary of Kim
Loong Resources Berhad (a public-listed company with Bursa
Malaysia).
Scientific
evidence indicates that the tocotrienol-rich fraction in
the market contains too high levels of undesirable
α-tocopherol,
leading to possibly reduced functionality. To address
this, Palm Nutraceuticals Sdn. Bhd. was set up to
produce high quality tocotrienol-rich fraction for
optimizing the chemo-preventive and chemotherapeutic
roles of tocotrienols against degenerative diseases.
Palm Nutraceuticals Sdn.
Bhd. had successfully developed a patented innovative technology for the tocotrienol extraction process

Vision
Palm
Nutraceuticals Sdn. Bhd. aims to become the global
quality benchmark for tocotrienol-rich fraction. We
continuously strive for innovation and efficiency. We
aim to achieve these goals in an ethical and socially
responsible manner, relying on green, sustainable and
non-destructive technology. Our company is
research-oriented, paving the way for the extraction of
valuable minor components without destroying palm oil
for edible applications.

Green and
sustainable technology
The
tocotrienol extraction process in Palm Nutraceuticals
Sdn. Bhd. is powered by clean renewable energy. Both
steam and electricity are generated using renewable
biomass and biogas.
We have
avoided the transesterification process which normally
generates massive methanol- and glycerol-containing
wastewater that are difficult to be satisfactorily
treated.
We are the
only known producer that uses non-destructive
technology, extracting premium quality tocotrienols with
preservation of palm oil for food application. The palm
oil after processing contains significantly lower free
fatty acids, monoacylglycerols, diacylglycerols, gums
and impurities including odoriferous materials. The
oxidative stability of the palm oil after processing is
also enhanced as reflected by a higher DOBI value. As
most of the undesirable components are removed during
our extraction process, the oil is easier to be refined
and fractionated as compared to the original crude palm
oil.
The improved
crude palm oil after processing enables the oil to use
less bleaching earth and milder refining conditions.
This has tremendous impact on cost-saving for palm oil refinery, in
reducing oil loss in spent bleaching earth and neutral
oil loss in fatty acid distillates. At the same time,
the milder deacification process shall retain more
un-degraded tocotrienols in the refined palm oil
ultimately, more than compensated for the small quantity
of tocotrienols extracted during our process.
The
non-destructive process also means that the
manufacturing process is relatively insensitive to
fluctuation in the crude palm oil prices and independent
to the demand of oleochemicals (fatty acid methyl esters
and glycerol). This practically means that our
manufacturing process is viable, independent of crude
oil prices. Reliable long term supply of crude palm oil
is secured from our holding company.

Our Team
We keep
abreast with latest developments in science and
technology. We designed the factory, processes and
products based on the currently available scientific
data.
Our research
team is headed by an executive director and a general
manager. Both have hands-on experience on palm oil
research and processing since 1980. The executive
director is also the technology provider, a shareholder
and inventor for the patent application.
Dr. Gee Ping
Tou, aged 56, is the executive director of Palm Nutraceuticals Sdn. Bhd. since 2004. He obtained his
B.Sc. Hons. and Ph.D. from University of Malaya in 1980
and 1985 respectively. He was a palm oil technologist
with Dunlop Estates Berhad, 1985 - 1990; senior
chemist/laboratory manager/senior manager (R&D and
technical supports) with Keck Seng Berhad, 1990 - 2000;
executive director with Supervitamins Sdn. Bhd. and Palm
Specialty Products Sdn. Bhd., 2000 - 2004.
Currently he
is the vice-chairman of Malaysian Institute of Chemistry
(Southern Branch), a fellow of Malaysian Institute of
Chemistry, a member of
the Programme Advisory Committee of Malaysian Palm Oil
Board and a member of Editorial Board for Journal of Oil
Palm Research.
He is the
inventor of three U.K. patents, four Singapore patents, two U.S.
patents, an Australian patent and a Malaysian Patent. He also has numerous patents pending
to be granted. He had published numerous peer-reviewed
articles in international scientific journals and
frequently presenting research findings at international
conferences.
Lim Jew Yeok
,aged 57, is the General Manager of Palm Nutraceuticals
Sdn Bhd since 2006. He obtained his B.Sc. Hons. from
University Science Malaysia in 1980 and has been working
in the palm oil industry after graduation. He was
initially employed as a quality control chemist in the
palm oil refinery and was later transferred to the R&D department of Golden
Hope Plantations Bhd. to conduct research on improving
quality, applications of oils & fats and palm
phytonutrient namely tocotrienols. He was a Chief
Research Officer with Golden Hope Plantations Berhad
since 1989.
He was
trained in implementation of TQM, HACCP, ISO9001
systems. He had traveled extensively to provide technical
support to industrial customers and marketing of palm
oil and palm oil products. He has collaborated with many
international customers using palm oil to improve
quality of finished products and resulting in
considerable cost saving.
He frequently
gives presentation on palm oil process and products in
local and overseas seminars to promote the use of palm
oil and palm oil products. He is a member of Malaysian
Institute of Chemistry and Malaysian Oil Scientist and
Technologists¨ Association.
